Description of Page: This page is devoted to coverage of the Battle of the Wilderness and the following engagements in the vicinity of Spotsylvania Court House, all reprinted from the New York Tribune. There is also a map of the area that depicts the union and rebel lines.

Description of Page: This page includes a poem entitled "What Then," and another message from Governor Curtin about how the Federal government ought to "reimburse the Banks for advancements to pay the militia called out last year." The anecdotes seem more bizarre and random than usual, with subjects ranging from voracious African ants who eat an entire Scotchman to "Fun--it is a great thing." There are also more mundane advertisements, with the following headings: Saddlery, Harness, &c; Hotels; Dry and Fancy Goods; Educational; Publications; Co-Partnership Notices; Medical.

Summary: A retelling of an account in the Presbyterian of how "a negro, named George, now a private in the 1st Tennessee light artillery," learned to read and write Latin and Greek, as well as English, while he was enslaved.

Summary: The author exhorts the readership to remember the "twenty thousand of our brave fathers, sons and brothers" who are "writhing under ghastly wounds in our hospitals." He urges people to contribute money and supplies to the Christian and Sanitary Commissions.

Town Cows--A Nuisance to be Abated

Summary: People are warned to be responsible for their cows' grazing habits or else risk having their animals seized by borough authorities and sold to owners who will keep them off other people's property.
