Suspension of Specie Payment

Summary: Banks around the country, including Philadelphia, Baltimore, Richmond and Staunton have suspended specie paymnents. The Virginia banks are sound, but they are creditors of the Northern banks that suspended payments, so they felt obligated to do the same. Banks made a wise decision.
