Treasure-Trove

Summary: Slave belonging to John Peer found a crock containing $324.24 in gold and silver buried in the ground. Slave was ploughing his garden-lot adjoining house previously owned by Wm. Coleman, who was murdered in Staunton in 1853. Source of the money remains unknown, although strong possibility it belonged to Coleman. Peer to give it to local authorities, but he will probably receive it eventually.
