The Letcher Controversy

Obituary

Summary: Erasmus Stribling, 74, died at the residence of his son-in-law, John S. Lewis, Esq., in Mason County on 7/2/1858. Served briefly as clerk for the old District Court of the Sweet Springs. He moved to Augusta County in 1805 and in 1812 was elected County Court Clerk. Left office in 1830. In 1845 became clerk for U.S. Court for the Western District of VA, from which he retired in 1857. He served as a Justice of the Peace for Augusta County, Clerk of the Corportation Court in Staunton, and Mayor of Staunton. Followed by lengthy obituary.
