Summary: Martin Weigand, a German resident of Staunton, disappeared around 1855. After a lengthy search, many people believed him dead or gave up on finding him. Apparently, however, he has been living in Lexington, Missouri. Reprints 9/21/1858 letter from Lowenstein to Frank reporting Weigand's presence in Lexington.

Summary: Richard W. Bushnell, a teacher from Washington, DC, arrived on 9/30/1858, seeking medical care and claiming that he was being poisoned. Dr. Stribling considered him delusional. On 10/1/1858, Bushnell shot himself in his room at the American Hotel, but was not killed.

Summary: Claims that the Vindicator cannot understand why any southern man would prefer the Crittenden amendment to the English Bill. Vindicator calls the Crittenden amendment "an infamous compromise" that surrenders southern rights. Article claims that Senator Douglas, a "true friend of the South," has embraced the Crittenden amendment over the English bill.
