Richmond, VA.
January, 12th 1863.

Mr. Mauzy: Let the owners of slaves know that they are all well, near Drewry's Bluff. In fine spirits and cheering for Jeff Davis and the Southern Confederacy. Their rations are short--new corn meal sifted and bacon. Owners should join and send enough for one ration a day to the respective overseers, to the care of Jno. Tyler & Son, Richmond.

In the Yankee Congress, Thadeus Stevens introduced a bill to employ one hundred and fifty thousand negroes in the military service to supply the places of the two years and the nine months men, whose term of service was about to expire.

The negroes will find that the Yankees, instead of being their friends, as they profess, are their worst enemies. They induce them to leave good homes to go into the army to be slaughtered. The Yankees know that every negro who is caught with arms in their hands will be hung, and yet they insist on putting them in the service. This shows that they care nothing for the life of their deluded victims.
