Revival Meeting

Summary: The Southern Methodist Church of Staunton has been holding a revival meeting for the past week. Twelve or fifteen people professed faith in Christ while eight more actually joined the congregation.
Lexington Presbytery

Summary: The Lexington Presbytery met in Staunton and dissolved the pastoral relation between the Rev. William T. Richardson and the Waynesboro Church he headed for 23 years. He leaves with the regrets of the congregation and his colleagues but will soon take charge of the Warrenton Church. In the meantime, the Rev. Robert C. Walker will handle church business.

Peterson, made to the Virginia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, we compile the following interesting statistics: Local preachers, 153; increase, 6; members of the church, 39,611; increase, 2,754; adult baptisms, 2,331; increase, 1,030; infant baptisms, 1,110; increase, 213; number of churches, 551; increase, 91; value of churches $805,865; increase of value, $26,030; number of parsonages, 35; increase, 7; value of parsonages, $65,700; increase in value, $4,000; number of Sunday schools, 495, increase, 59; officers and teachers, 5,024; increase, 863; scholars, 26,933; increase, 4,111; volumes in Sunday school libraries, 53,695; increase, 11,550.

Physical development is the basis, the foundation, of all other development. Until a country is physically developed, it will have no arts, no literature, no culture, no wealth, no power, and its religion will be a feeble light -- and not a candle set on a hill.

We must develop Virginia -- all of her material resources. We must complete our railroads, finish our canal, open up our mines utilize our water-courses, build up our cities. And that is the great job of these years just now to come. -- Enquirer
