Information for Distillers of Brandy
(Column 01)

Summary: The paper printed a notice announcing changes in the distilling laws. The bond has been reduced and the per diem tax was eliminated. Stills must continue to be registered and pay a special tax of $50 per year. Brandy must be gauged and stamped by an inspector.

A Proposal
(Column 01)

Summary: James E. A. Gibbs announced that, since it appeared likely that Augusta County will vote down the proposed $300,000 subscription to the Valley Railroad, he would step in with several other investors and pick up the county's share. In return, he asked the citizens of Augusta to give him the stock on the same terms offered to the county, and that the railroad have no "depot, station, switch, or stopping place" within Augusta County except at Staunton.
