Testimony: David Bowers

. . .that said supplies were taken from him near Middlebrook Augusta County Virginia on or about the 6th day of June 1864 by the Officers of the Command of General Crook for the use of the troops of the U. S. then encamped near Middlebrook Va, at the time said property was taken your petitioner represented himself as a citizen loyal to the U. S. and the parties so taking it stated he would at sometime be paid for the same. No receipt or vouchers was given for the same.

. . .David Bowers, being duly sworn says he is the petitioner name in the foregoing petition and who signed the same; that the matters therein stated are true of deponents own knowledge. And deponent further says that he did not voluntarily serve in the Confederate Army or Navy, either as an officer, Soldier or Sailor, or in any othe capacity, at any time during the late rebellion: that he never voluntarily furnished any stores or supplies, or other material aid to said Confederate Army or Navy or to the Confederate Government or to any Officer, Department or adherent of the same in support thereof, and that he never voluntarily accepted or exercised the functions of any office whatever under or yielded voluntary support to the said Confederate Government
