Notes: Surrendered Appomattox 04-09-65; entitled to take with him one private mule; rode home with an old blanket as a saddle (his saddle was stolen the night before) with Capt. S. W. Paxton and Surgeon John Gibson; spent the first night in Lynchburg; proceeded up the canal and spent the second night at Riverside Rockbridge Co. with the Shields family; spent the third night with Capt. Paxton near Fairfield, reaching home on the afternoon of the 14th of April 1865.
