Dear Giney
This evening finds me in this place well and hearty and I hope that
you all enjoy the same blessing we reached
this place last [deleted: tuesday]
wednesday eve we are doing very well! We have all been assigned to earlys command in the
Valley, and expect to be in Staunton in a
few days I will try to get home if we get to
town but do not know
whether I can or not There are a great

many men here now and are going to the
different parts of the army every Day,
we get enough to eat on very good quarters to stay in nothing to do but eat and sleep. I would like to know how you are getting along at home I have been well as ever I was in my life since I left home but this kind of life
does not suit me
trusting in god for all needed good I must close for this time
as ever yours
