I seat myself to answer yours of the 4th I was very sorry to hear you was suffering with your teeth but was glad to hear you getting on with your business so well This
leaves me hearty but have a very bad cold I
hope this will reach you soon & find you well as heart can wish
I have no news to write I was very glad to hear
your Pa give you that present I hope you will
have friends until I can hear

as Father has left I hope you all can make better arrangements to live I don't know how long I will stay here but don't think there will be any chance to spend christmas with you it is almost impossible to get a furlough I can't get a leave of absence for ten day if I could I would be at home sooner if I didn't stay but one day this will inform Fathers family I am getting very well Tell Bet I thank her for her paper she sent me for it is very high here though I have money enough to buy paper yet I have good clothing you need not be uneasy about me they say the railroad is cut between here & Richmond you must excuse me for this short letter & remember me in your prayers
