Dear Sister
I take the pleasure this morning of writing you a few lines to inform you that I am tolerable well I hope
these few lines may find you all well you said you were not so well I reckon that new dress did not agree with you
you must be a looking out for a bow that you are
a fixing up so I heard from home yesterday they was all well and pap
had gone to stilling they say he is doing
better and making more than anyone else I suppose you would like to
hear something from the army that is more
than I can do to tell you I have not seen that man here yet that can
tell
anything
about the movements in the valley we
have had several fights I have been in four fights since I came down myself and horse had a slight

was hurt we lost two out of
our Company one killed one captured Samuel
Miller was killed the son of Soloman Miller we have been resting for three days we had
plenty of rain a very hard rain last night we are living very well plenty of good flour plenty of the best of beef plenty good apples and cider
and a crock of applebutter my little horse is doing finely at home Adam has taken him for his
riding horse I must bring my letter to a close
