Summary:
Calvert submits a statement testifying that a James Hill had intended to provide
for his two slaves after his death, but does not believe that Hill's wishes were
ever carried out.

I Hereby certify that i Was intimately Acquainted With James B. Hill for 20 years or upwards He Being one of my Best Friends until His Death i was with Him During His illness. Before His Sickness i often Heard Him Say That He Had Provided for His colored man John And Also His colored Woman Rossanah they Were to Have a Home And fifty Dollars a [added: year] in money and that John Was to go on [added: and] Work As He Had Always Done I Know that He Always intended that they should [added: Have] a Home Whether His intentions Was carried out in His Will I Know Not I Know He Always intended that they should Not Become a Burden To anyone I Know that they-- Never got What He Intended they should Have i think That He Died in April 1852 i was With Him When He Breathed His Last The Above is A True Statement
