I have the honor to request the assignment of three (3) officers for duty in this District in the Counties of Botetourt (SubDistrict "A"), Alleghany, Bath (Sub District "B") and Rockbridge (Sub District "C")
On application to Lieutenant Colonel Cecil Clay 58th Pennsylvania Volunteers commanding Sub-District of Staunton he answers "I have no officers I can let you have as assistants -- I have seven (7) companies with but four (4) officers one of whom is acting adjutant leaving three (3) officers for duty with seven (7) Companies."
The officers desired are necessary for the proper and immediate organization of the District.
