Freedmen's Bureau Records: Statement of Cecil Clay, January 10, 1866

Clay (in a statement copied and appended by How) turns the barracks in Staunton over to the Freedmen's Bureau. The property on which the barracks stand is the subject of Thomas Wholey's claim.

Staunton, Virginia

The U.S. Barracks at this Post with all appurtenances are turned over to the Freedman's Bureau and will be taken possession of and used by the proper Agent at this Post.
