Freedmen's Bureau Records: Will A. Coulter to R.S. Lacey, October 5, 1868

Summary:
Judging by this inquiry, Jordan seems to have disappeared for a period of time following his transfer out of Augusta County.

Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
Headquarters Assistant Commissioner Virginia Lacey, R. S.
Sub Assistant Commissioner 7th Sub-District

October 5, 1868

Richmond, Virginia

Sir,

The Assistant Commissioner desires to be informed, with the least possible delay, if J.W. Jordan Assistant Sub Assistant Commissioner has taken charge of his Division and established his Head Quarters at Lexington. If he has not, it is directed that you order him to proceed to that place at once, or show by "Surgeons Certificate" that he is unable to travel, and for how long a period, he is likely to remain so.

Very respectfully
Your obedient Servant

Will A. Coulter
Brevet Captain U.S. Army
Acting Assistant Adjutant General
