Freedmen's Bureau Records: Roswell Waldo to O. O.
Howard, January 12, 1869
Summary:
Waldo writes that he was delayed in Staunton after the date of his resignation
from the Bureau, and asks for pay to compensate for his expenses. An attached
order indicates that the Bureau complied with Waldo's request.
General O. O. Howard
Commissioner Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
Washington, DC
January 12 1869
Washington, DC
General:
In consequence of my detention at Staunton Va until the 8th inst., awaiting my pay and transportation from Richmond, Va., I would respectfully ask if the revocation of my appointment could not be so amended as to take effect on that day, since the Expenses necessarily incurred while detained there are nearly equivalent to the pay due up to that time.
Very respectfully
Your obedient servant
Roswell Waldo
Late Agent Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
