i take this Present time to write you these few lines to let you know that i am Well at present and i hope When these few lines reach you they may find you in the same state of health i receive your kind letter and i Was very glad to hear from you and all the rest i am sorry to think how you have to get along i never thought that you Would have to Work so hard to get along but i think that i Will be home before long for they Will have to pay us again the 22 of day of march i have not got time to write much but i am happy to say that We had a hard fight but We all got out safe but William Christy he Was killed on the ground and Joe Was Wounded i the head but he has Come back to the regiment again and is getting along very Well and the boy all have good health so far you must excuse this short letter for i have not got time to write much but i [unclear: shule] write soon again and then i Will tell you all about the [unclear: tims] please write soon and let me know Where John is going to in the spring When you write Direct you letter to Hilton Head South Carolina Co K 54 Massachusetts volunteers nothing more at present but still remain
