My Dear

i take this present opportunity to inform you that i am Well at this present and i hope When these few lines reach you they may find you in the same state of health i receive your kind letter last evening With the greatest of pleasure for i had not heard from you for some time and i Was glad to hear that you got my likeness and i Was glad to hear that you got my likeness and i Was glad to hear that Cousin gorge got off safe and i had heard that the rebels Was in the but it please me very much to hear that I Was not so for i just now how the people is Scared about home but i am sorry that i ain't there for i have saw so many that a rebel is no more then one of our one men but i am happy to say that i am getting along very Well now i have quit butchering and i am in a store now clerking some Days i sell three or four hundred dollars Worth [unclear: o] you to see me [unclear: fliring] around the Counter When the officers come in to buy We have no Dry goods all We have is [unclear: caten] and Whiskey to sell but We open at 7 oclock and set up at 5 oclock and the i [unclear: Wak] about as big if i [unclear: onde] all the store i [unclear: kear] for nobody i have the best to live on for breakfast i hand ham and eggs and for dinner [illeg.] [illeg.] chicken and Corn and tomatoes and bread pudding and rice i have not been Called to supper yet i Can't tell What the girls Will have for supper but When i say girls don't think [unclear: taha] are for i haven't saw a girl for a month only When a boat Comes to the Dock then i just get to see them i am sorry that i Can't write more this time but i hope that you Will excuse this sort letter please give my love to all the friends and my best love to yourself and please give my love to giny gater and tell giny that i have a nice young man for her and if she Want to write to him Why let me know in the next letter for he Would like to write to some young lady very much Direct your letter to morris island south Carolina 54 Camp
