Dear Colonel-
I will be down Thursday afternoon on my way to Washington. Will have time to confer with you an hour and will meet you at Herr's.
Please see that a [unclear: proper] appropriation for military clerks is put in the bill in the Senate.
The Fulton county court meets Monday a week. It is of the first importance that
the Governor sends some competent person to prosecute
the [illeg.] case. The District Attorney is clearly implicated and there
is very intense feeling on the subject in the county. [unclear: Reilly]
is competent

and being a Democrat is the proper man. He would go upon
the request of the Governor or Attorney General and leave his pay to an
appropriation by the next Legislature. I wrote Mr Meredith on Friday but have no
answer. If this can be done it should be done at once.
I have written several parties upon the other subject mentioned in your letter.
