Dear Colonel,
I was absent today, but Mr. Stoner opened your dispatch & saw Mr. Hutton. He will give particular attention to [unclear: inquiries] about your son.
I saw Colonel Boyd who commanded the scouts of Sigel,
but he had no knowledge of any other [unclear: commands] than

his own, which was made up of odds & Ends. Sigel lost about 1200 men,
he informs me, but brought most of his wounded off & is more in a safe
position.
Yours Truly

Honorable Eli Slifer
