Dear Colonel,

I was absent today, but Mr. Stoner opened your dispatch & saw Mr. Hutton. He will give particular attention to [unclear: inquiries] about your son.

I saw Colonel Boyd who commanded the scouts of Sigel, but he had no knowledge of any other [unclear: commands] than

his own, which was made up of odds & Ends. Sigel lost about 1200 men, he informs me, but brought most of his wounded off & is more in a safe position.
