Franklin County: Alexander K. McClure to Eli Slifer, August 21, 186x

Summary:
McClure's letters questions the loyalty of an aspiring Army surgeon.

August 21

Chambersburg

Dear Sir

I learn that Dr. Jos H. McClintock of this county, either has been examined, or will present himself for examination as an army Surgeon.

He is not a loyal man - has openly expressed his opinions in opposition to the war, and he must not be appointed. Judge [unclear: Hill] has also written to some of the Departments at Hamburg stating the same fact. You are at liberty to present this letter to Dr. [unclear: Smith] as I do not hesitate to assume the responsibilty of its contents.

Truly Thine

AK McClure

Honorable Eli Slifer
