My dear Sir
I write you in response to our friend Taggart and as you [unclear: just to assume from] you did not receive my letter.
I am of the opinion that we cannot get the [unclear: collectorship] for him, and [illeg.] the help to get him some honorable and lucrative place--
As several of your friends named [unclear: Mr Pluncual] for Attorney General it will no doubt be gratifying to you to hear that I think of appointing him.
