Honorable Simon Cameron
Dear Sir
I have [unclear: hoped] we could manage to retain [illeg.] [unclear: Friday] in the Telegraph office-- I paid him for his [deleted: ] in the campaign, but he charged so little that he could not be expected to remain and especially as he has an office at Washington.
The office you name would not be in harmony with his tasks, as his training has not been of such as character as to make him familiar with accounts
The [unclear: Dep. rec] in addition to the general direction of the hearings of the office [unclear: keep] all the accounts received the [illeg.] &c &c-
He is a reliable and faithful man and can be of great service to our party and we must take care of him--
Yours truly
A. G. Curtin
