Valley Railroad

Summary: The delegation of valley citizens led by Col. Harman met in Baltimore to lobby for funding for the Valley Railroad. Gen. Robert E. Lee chaired the meeting and Bolivar Christian and Maj. J. B. Dorman acted as secretaries. General Lee read an address pointing out the economic benefits Baltimore would receive from completion of the road.

The court was composed of the late appointees, excepting A.E. Pierce, Esq., one of the old Magistrates who was continued and presided.

H.G. McCausland, former Constable and Overseer of the Poor, was continued as such--having qualified.

The following persons qualified for the offices mentioned in connection with their names:

Jas. F. Davis, W.A. Reed, Jacob Ewing, Jno. K. Kayser, Constables.

Dan'l H. Kindig, Deputy Sheriff.

Wm. A. Burnett and Has. W. Baldwin, Deputies of Sam'l Cline, Clerk.

Chesley Kinney, Notary Public.

J.H. Stover, Assistant Commissioner of the Revenue for the 2nd District.

J.M. Bell, Jno. Paris and Chesley Kinney renewed their bonds as notaries.

The following appointees have qualified as Magistrates:

An order was made that all the acting Justices in the County be summoned to be present at the next term of the Court for the purpose of electing a presiding Justice.

Rev. Geo. Kramer, of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, was appointed and authorized to celebrate the rights of Matrimony and gave the required bond.
