Plan of Organization for the Formation and Distribution of a Relief Fund for the Sufferers from the Late Flood

Summary: The paper reports that Col. Reynolds, Independent Conservative, won Augusta County in the race for congress from the 6th district. It appears that Judge Harris, conservative nominee, will win, however, after gaining strong majorities in the other counties making up the district.

Summary: The paper announces the death of John Fields, father-in-law of William Milnes. Fields died on Tuesday at the Shenandoah Iron Works. He was a Pennsylvania native, but moved to Virginia after the war. "By his enterprise, industry and good management he accumulated much wealth."

The New Telegraph Company

Summary: James E. Norris, agent of the Valley's new telegraph company, has been in Staunton discussing the advantages of the new service. It will lower telegraph costs, link Staunton to other Valley towns, and open a link with nearby markets at Washington and elsewhere. "We propose to Bulletin the markets and foreign and domestic news that are important and liable to fluctuate any market daily, so that commission merchants, cattle deals, and etc., can obtain every market promptly without waiting for the newspapers, free of charge. We also propose to quote stocks and gold every day, or as often as required, free."
