Summary:
Confederate General Thomas J. Jackson writes from Staunton to General Richard Ewell on various aspects of the May, 1862, Valley campaign.

Maj. Gen. R. S. EWELL:

STAUNTON,

May 5, 1862

GEN.:

I understand from various sources that the enemy has left Harrisonburg.

Capt. Winfield, of the cavalry, has gone in that direction, and I sent him word to try and communicate to you any information he may receive. If the enemy has advanced in the direction of the Warm Springs it must be for the purpose of effecting a junction with Milroy, and if you can do anything to call him back I hope that you will do so.

Very truly, yours,

T. J. JACKSON.
