Summary:
In mid-September, 1862, Union General George B. McClellan moved to oppose Robert
E. Lee's invasion of Maryland. In this dispatch, McClellan informs
General-in-Chief Halleck of the position of his army, and warns about the safety
of Chambersburg.

We occupy Middletown and Jefferson. The whole force of the enemy in front. They are not returning to Virginia. Look well to Chambersburg. Shall lose no time. Will soon have a decisive battle.
