Summary:
Union General Darius Couch reports to Army of the Potomac quartermaster Rufus Ingalls after the battle of Gettysburg on the destroyed state of the Cumberland Valley Railroad 6 miles from Chambersburg.

Chief Quartermaster, Army of the Potomac:

July 7, 1863.

The Cumberland Valley Railroad is so badly destroyed from 6 miles this side of Chambersburg that I shall not be able to throw supplies below that point.
