Summary:
Robert E. Lee's aide-de-camp Charles Venable orders General Jubal Early to move to Staunton to take control of Confederate forces in the Shenandoah Valley.


January 15, 1864.

Maj. Gen. J. A. Early, with his staff, will proceed to Staunton and resume his command of the Valley District. The post quartermaster will furnish transportation.
