Summary:
These May, 1864, Confederate Special Orders send Quartermaster Charles Snowden to
Staunton to report for duty.
Richmond,
May 24, 1864.
VI. Capt. John J. Middleton, assistant quartermaster, is relieved from duty with the Fifteenth Regt. South Carolina Volunteers, and will report to Gen. R. E. Lee, commanding, &c., for assignment to duty as chief quartermaster of the artillery of the First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia.
XI. Brig. Gen. William M. Gardner, Provisional Army, C. S., will report without delay to this office for assignment to duty.
XII. Col. J. B. Walton is relieved from inspection duty, and will report in person to Gen. R. E. Lee for artillery service in Army of Northern Virginia.
XXII. Maj. L. R. Page, assistant adjutant-general, will proceed without delay to Danville, Va., and made a thorough inspection of the various Government department at that place. He will make a report of his inspection to the Adjutant and Inspector Gen.
XXIV. Maj. Charles A. Snowden, quartermaster, &c., is relieved from duty in the Department of Richmond, and will report to Maj. Gen. A. Elzey, commanding, &c., Staunton, Va., for assignment.
