Union Secretary of War Edwin Stanton writes General Grant informing him of May,
1864, troop locations in the Shenandoah Valley. Stanton reports that
Confederates under General John C. Breckinridge are at Staunton.

Sigel is at Woodstock; report Breckinridge at Staunton on the 10th of May, and that a portion of his force was in Sigel's front. Cook had not been heard from since the 6th of this month, and was then at Princeton.
