to notify General Crook of General Sigel's wish that Crook move on Staunton to
destroy the railroad.

Gen. Sigel, after a severe engagement at New Market with the forces of Echols and Imboden, under the command of Breckinridge, on the 15th, has been compelled to fall back north of Cedar Creek. He directs that you send a messenger to Gen. Crook and advise him of Gen. Sigel's situation, and inform Crook that Gen. Sigel directs that he operate against Staunton, and destroy the railroad between Staunton and Jackson River Station, if possible.
