General William Averell of Confederate forces in the area during June, 1864,
campaigning in the Shenandoah Valley.

June 9, 1864. (Received 12.30 a. m. 10th.)
Gen. Hunter has just sent word here that the enemy is in force within one-half mile of our picket, on the Greenville road. He directed Gen. Crook to notify you of it, and to say that the information s reliable. The enemy came up since dark.
