Summary:
Union General Darius Couch writes from Chambersburg to the Army Adjutant General
in July, 1864, concerning troop movements in Maryland, southern Pennsylvania,
and the Valley.
ADJUTANT-GEN. U. S. ARMY:
CHAMBERSBURG, PA.,
July 3, 1864
Telegraphic communication is cut off with Sigel. Artillery is hard at Greencastle and Hagerstown; it is probably at Martinsburg. Sigel notified me that a movement in force was probable. During the night I hope to have one company of cavalry and two of infantry at this point.
D. N. COUCH,
Maj.-Gen., Cmdg.
