Summary:
Union General Darius Couch, commanding at Chambersburg, writes General William
Averell on July 30, 1864, to notify him that Confederate forces are drawing near
Chambersburg. Couch relays his intentions to hold the town as long as possible
and asks for Averell's plans.

The enemy are advancing on the Loudon pike. Let me know what you intend doing. I will endeavor to hold the town until daylight.
