Summary:
Union General Darius Couch, commanding at Chambersburg, writes Chief of Staff
Henry Halleck in October, 1864, to notify him that after hearing news of General
Philip Sheridan's victory in the Shenandoah Valley he countermanded orders
providing for the defense of Pennsylvania.
