Burgess JOHN STEWART, Esq.:

Chambersburg, Pa.,

November 12, 1864.

SIR:

I am directed by the commanding general of inform you that it is reported by parties leaving no room for doubt, the rebel Gilmor with fifty mounted men is on this side of the Potomac, and to say there will be no troops here to-night to employ against them.
