These Union orders issued by the Department of the Susquehanna at Chambersburg in September, 1864, make L. B. Norton the Department's chief signal officer.


Chambersburg, Pa.

September 13, 1864.

Capt. L. B. Norton, Signal Corps, U. S. Army having reported to the commanding general, in obedience to paragraph 4, Special Orders, No. 288, dated War Department, Adjutant-Gen.'s Office, Washington, September 1, 1864, is hereby announced as chief signal officer of the Department of the Susquehanna.
