Col. FORSYTH:

Leetown

September 16, 1864

Patrols have picked up and just brought in a deserter who says he saw a lady last evening from Newport that Kershaw's division was passing through there toward Staunton. He saw the lady at Mr. Frieze's, six miles from Brucetown. He belongs to the Tenth North Carolina Infantry, and his statement is confused.
