Summary:
P. F. Howard writes Robert E. Lee in May, 1861, to notify him that arms are being sent by train to Staunton for the use of newly enlisted regiments.


Maj.-Gen. LEE,
Commander of Virginia Forces:

May 14, 1861.

The council desires me to inform Gen. Lee that an order has been given by the Governor for a special train to Staunton to-night to carry the muskets and rifles deigned for Grafton.
