D. D. Perkins reports to Union General Nathaniel P. Banks that Confederate
General Thomas Jackson was seen retreating to Staunton with guns and supplies in
March, 1862.

Your message received. Authentic information received to-day of evacuation of Strasburg yesterday by Jackson's forces taking the road to Staunton, with guns and stores. Railroad bridges over North and South Branches of the Shenandoah burned Friday night. Turnpike bridges on Front Royal road over Shenandoah and North Branch also destroyed.
