Summary:
Confederate Colonel Michael G. Harman, commanding at Staunton, writes Secretary
of War Judah P. Benjamin in October, 1861, concerning orders for a regiment in
the town.

October 21, 1861.
DEAR SIR:
Inclosed is an urgent letter from Gen. Jackson, and I have done all I could to have the Fifty-eighth to move in accordance with his wishes, but am informed you have allowed them to remain for a short time. If it cannot move, I must ask you to send another regiment up with the least possible delay, to take position on the Hardy line.
