Augusta County: T. W. Alexander, A. R. Wright, J. A. Stewart, T. S. Price, D. Scott, J. A. Johnson, Committee to Alexander H. H. Stuart, February 11, 1868

Summary:
The conservatives of Floyd County, Georgia, invite Alexander H. H. Stuart to attend a celebration of Washington's birthday to take place in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia.

Feby 11 1868

Rome Floyd County Georgia

Dear Sir

The conservatives of Floyd County regardless of past party differences propose to have a meeting in Rome on the 22nd Inst, for the purpose of celebrating the Birth-day of Washington, and also for the purpose of interchanging opinions upon the present distracted condition of the County -

May not the hallowed memories associated with the name of Washington revived by a proper observance of the day that gave him to the County - and to the whole Country - tend to lead back the hearts of the people to the Constitution and the Union made and established by his wise counsel -

The Southern people are terribly oppressed, but are disposed to preserve

their manhood untarnished preferring to submit for a while to military despotism rather than to the ruin and degradation of Radical rule and negro Supremacy -

We most cordially Solicit your presence at our celebration, and if you should find it inconvenient to attend we earnestly request that you will send us a word of hope and encouragement -

Very Respectfully

T W Alexander
A R Wright
J A Stewart
T S Price
D Scott
J A Johnson
