Freedmen's Bureau Records: N. C. Brackett to Thomas P. Jackson, December 16, 1867

Summary:
Brackett submits an application for funding to Jackson, on the advice of General Oliver Howard, Commissioner of the Bureau.

Dec. 16, 1867

Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

My Dear Mr. Jackson,

Enclosed you will find a document, which I forward to you at the suggestion of Gen. Howard. When I was in his office the other day, I met Rev. Mr. Harris and Miss Rodney, [unclear: pleading] for their church. The Gen. called on me to know about it, and I told him as nearly I could how the case stood. He told me to make an application for them, and he would help by way of rent, just as he did others. I promised to do it and here you have the application. I certainly hope they will get the money, and that someone will be [illeg.] to [unclear: teach] a school in it.

Yours in haste

N.C. Brackett
