Dear Father
I take the pleasure to write a fiew lines to let you know
that I am well at present hopeing that you are all
the same I also let you know that we have news of a great victory down at Peters Burg but I don't think that John was in the
fight as much as I can learn in the news paper the
fifth corps was not engaged in the battle further I let you know that our
cavalry is down with General Grants army that is all
the mounted men but the dismounted men are still here I think we will stay here
a while I also let you know that I sent

a letter home with twenty
dollars I wish you would answer that letter as soon as possible and let me know
wether you got that money and direct your letter
to this place I will give you the direction at the end of this letter and our
mail goes down to petersburg and if you don't direct them to this place then I
wont get them if they go down there I also let you
know that I sent my picture home a while ago inform me also about that and about
sending home clothing I and Cyrus Engle and I will sent
some home one of thes days further I let you know that
we have bad weather at present it was raining all night
