Dear Sister
I take the most and favorable opportunity to inform you that I am well and in great health at
the present and I hope this will find you the same. Ther is great
rumors here that our men is in Fredricksburg after fighting a
severe Battle but I dont know how

true it is. This is a
[unclear: runing] hand writing that I have wrote on the other side I want you to send
me some gun shelack for [unclear: put] plates in a ring and send me a five sent
peice of silver. I am going to make a ring of a bone of a horse.
I have had a belly full of apples to day on the steam boat, there
was a barl of on the boat for the [unclear: suttlers] and the
end of the barl was open and I eat as many as I could eat. the
[unclear: suttler] sells the aples for five sents a peise.

I have firstrate times here plenty of fresh bred and I buy butter of the [unclear: suttler] for fifty cents a pound. and lots of mustard and pepper. we have good living here I dont care if uncle [deleted: sams] sam lets me stay here till the war is over if he gives me plenty of bred pork and beans and potatoes coffee and sugar and tea, vinegar molases candles soap vegetables soap. The above is what we draw here to eat and candles to burn,
