January 11th, 1863

Camp Near Portsmouth, VA

Sir

I have the honor respectfully to request leave of absence for three weeks to go to London, Franklin County, Pa.

My reasons for making this application is that for a week and a half I have been laboring under a severe indisposition, rendering me wholly unfit for duty. I am persuaded I shall not recover while lying in camp. The comforts and attentions of home will I hope enable me to return soon to duty.

I am very respectfully
Your Obt. Servt.

John Ault, Chaplain
