Sir
The communication in reference to Thos. G. Pilkington Co. D 126th Pa. Vols. is received; in reply I have the honor to report that said Pilkington was badly wounded in the right thigh, at lower third, at the battle of Fredericksburg.
The limb is now in an Erysipelatous condition, and it would be folly to discharge the man as I believe his recovery doubtful.
he is taking [illeg.] every three hours, with two tablespoonfuls of brandy. His diet consists of Essence of Beef, & chicken soup &c.
I have the honor to be your obedient servant
McClendenin
